Community Groups

As iron sharpens iron, so one man sharpens another.

Proverbs 27:17

The hallmark characteristic of a disciple of Jesus Christ is love for God and love for other people both inside and outside of the faith. Real relationships have to be practiced. It doesn't come naturally for us to love God with all of our hearts, souls, and minds or to love somebody else the same way we love ourselves. We are easily distracted in everyday life. Therefore, Community Groups give us predictable and safe places to practice loving God and loving others.

Groups meet in homes throughout the community each week for Bible study, prayer, and the development of meaningful relationships.

Frequently Asked Questions

Below is a look at some of the frequently asked questions we receive about Community Groups at South Ridge Church. If you have any questions not answered below, feel free to contact the SRC Office at (304) 363-0190.

What is the purpose of community groups?

Community Groups at SRC are designed to help people engage in Real Relationships. REAL RELATIONSHIPS require us to connect with others in ways that lead to meaningful spiritual and emotional growth. In Groups, individuals and families are often challenged to connect with others who think differently about faith, family, and friendship.

How often do groups meet? What if I miss a meeting?

Community Groups meet once weekly, with the length of each meeting being approximately 2 hours. This provides time for biblical discussion, sharing prayer requests and praying for one another, and additional time of relationship building.
Those attending Community Groups understand that personal events or inclement weather may interfere with attendance. however, Group Participants are encouraged to participate as often as possible so that ongoing Accountability, Belonging, and Care are provided for each member in the Group.
Throughout the year, Community Groups meet approximately 30 times, with three 10-week trimesters occurring between September (Fall) and May (Spring). Generally speaking, these dates include:
Fall: The Weekend after Labor Day through Mid-November.
Winter: The first or second Week in January through Easter.
Spring: Easter through Memorial Day Weekend.
Other: Many Groups opt to connect relationally for a Christmas Gathering, Summer Picnics, and/or other social gatherings throughout the year.

Is child care available?

Some Community Groups opt to have Child Care available on-site, with the parents paying a small fee for each of their children present. Other Groups request parents to make child care arrangements on their own. For those who may need financial assistance to help with child care, SRC may be able to assist.

What do groups discuss?

The majority of Community Groups at South Ridge Church discuss questions based on the weekend message. Each week, the Group Leader will receive an email of discussion questions and will share the questions with the Group ahead of time.
Despite having Discussion Questions available each week, some Groups may opt to go through a separate study for a short period of time.
